Mood Board

This is my mood board, for the target audience this magazine is aimed for. I used the following images, because these tie in well with what the target audience would like or the target audiences image. The audience are likey to be more male than female with the age range of 15-35. The scale of class will be around ABC1C2. This is because most of the target audience are between middle/higher class and working class. I know this, because their taste is expensive. Due to prices of tattoos, piercings and clothing. Although the target audience splash out to fit in with the hardcore scene; gigs and shows are relatively cheap. Due to what venue the gig is being held.
The psychographic profiles hardcore fans will be listed around are succeeders, aspirers and reformers. Maybe some even come under individual. But mainly the first three things are relative. I feel these three things are the relative choices due to the fact, hardcore fans absolutely deteste mainstream music and are rarely individual. Most hardcore fans are wanting the luxury lifestyle; or already have it. Being mainly yuppies and dinks, the hardcore scene is full of young, child free adults with a high disposable income. so again, they can go to shows and purchase clothing and ink. The audiences hobbies are mainly; gigs and shows, playing computer games, partying, festivals (such as download). Also many hardcore fans (the target audience) have their own bands; which are usually in the style of another band.

Due to various reasons, I am not able to use this mood board as it doesn't show who my target audience is. I have had to change my idea for the magazine. Therefore, the mood board to the right is for my new idea.

These images are the final images for my preliminary task, which was based around a college magazine. I used a orange and blue colour scheme to suit the main colours of East Norfolk Sixth form college. I used 'old school' typography in a variety of ways to create a varsity, college feel. Which are normally found on sports jerseys. I used the same colour scheme throughout the magazine, to create a professional approach towards the reader and audience.

For the front cover of this college magazine, I used one main image. This image portrays a typical happy student, which will help attract the audience. I edited the image roughly, so the image stood out towards the audience in colour, as well as in the eye contact. The eye contact focuses directly towards the target audience, to attract the audience. I used the logo of East Norflk Sixth Form College; to tell the students who this magazine was specifically made by and aimed for, to indicate what it is full of and what they would see as fun and helpful. I chose to call this magazine 'Grade'. This is simply because grades are something you achieve, so therefore I felt it was appropriate to use. It also shows that this magazine could be helpful to achieve your 'grade' in a variety of ways.
The subheadings on the title page, consist of what would be found in the magazine. I chose the following contents by asking a number of students what they would want to be found in a magazine in order for them to purchase and read the product. To make the product come across professional, I used a barcode, as most magazines have these; again with a professional outcome.
I have stated on the front cover, that the first issue is free. This is because once I gathered the information of my questionnaire, I found that most students wanted to see what type of contents they were going to be purchasing. Therefore allowing them to see if it is worth purchasing. I have also stated that the issues of this magazine would be found monthly, as this is what a large number of the audience preferred.

The contents page is again, finished; with the same colour scheme and theme throughout. I have used one small image of another happy student. To once again attract the audience to this magazine. The contents page is full of the content that is found in the magazine. I chose this content with the help from my questionnaire the students took part in.
To give a professional approach in a different direction, I have placed my signature, to show the audience, who was the editor of this magazine. This shows the audience it is a reliable and a professional source.
Although I have made my magazine professional in a variety of ways, There are a few problems. These consist of the following: The contents page is far to busy, and unclear to read; with the layers of text surrounding eachother. this doesn't indicate clearly to the reader which pages are what. Which may affect the products future reputation.
The front covers image has far to much contrast added to it. Although it helps this image stand out, it does it in a bad way. This creates a yellow image which doesn't suit the coloured scheme very well and also makes the magazine look unprofessional.
Analysis of Rock Sound magazine – Front cover
The first thing that catches my eye when I looked at the front cover of Rock Sound was the main image of 'Bring Me The Horizon'. This is because they are a popular band with the target audience. The main image consists of all males, which may indicate the target audience is women, but could also be argued for a male audience, as more males may listen to the band. Another way you can tell who the target audience for this magazine would be the bands style and image. Consisting of piercings, stretched ears and tattoos. This influences the target audience to purchase the magazine, as they will be likely to look similar, or enjoy what image many of these bands portray. The target audience would be mainly a male orientated audience. Giving as the music is listened to mainly by males. However, it may also attract females, as the bands my appeal to them in an attractive way. The target audience will be based around the ages of 14-25. The reason I chose this age gap is because the music is quite a modern twist on old rock/punk music. I feel that the target audience will be based around the areas of C1 - D. This is simply because, it is not a very high class music genre, and not very expensive to look like the bands or go to shows at various venues.
There are no supporting images on the front cover. This may be because they do not want to give away what is published in magazine or maybe because the front cover will look to busy and unattractive. There are 4 colours on the front cover, which contrast well with the main image, as the editors have focused well to see which colours would combine well with the main image. There are two fonts on the front cover. One font being the masthead and another one being a different font for the subtitles.
The background of the front cover is a plain black background; this may be because they do not want to attract the audience from the main image. There is some graphics illustrated onto the front cover, for a ‘futuristic’ and a ‘technological’ feel. This is because the Bring me the Horizons interview is based on the bands ’future’ so this is appropriate for the front cover.
Analysis on Rock Sound magazine – Contents page
There are two contents pages in Rock Sound magazine. One is for the main features of the magazine.
These mainly include interviews on various bands, to attract the reader. The main features contents page has a total of five images. One being the main, background image and the others supporting this image. The images consist of famous bands, who all have a similar style and image. This suggests that the target audience has a similar if not the same image as many of the bands on this page.
The fonts on this page consist of three different typefaces. One is for the main masthead which is the signature logo of this product. The other two fonts are for the subtitles. There are only 2 main font colours on this page, which contrast well with the front cover, using the same red and white theme. This therefore shows it is a professional magazine. The layout of this main features contents page is very simple, having the images on the left hand side, to coordinate with the text the opposite side. This therefore makes it clear to read and understand.
The other, second contents page is for the features, which occur in every issue. The same theme has been used on this contents page to link with the other page. This consists of; the same colour theme has been used throughout the two pages. The same red and white theme. However, the features contents page has also used black and grey to add more vibrancy and to dominate which parts of the contents page are important. On this page, there are three images. Again, like the other page; these consist of different bands too. Again, with a similar image and style. On this page, there is again three different typefaces. One font being for the products logo/masthead and the others being for the subtitles.
On this contents page, there is a small article found by the editor of this magazine. This is almost shown in very magazine, as it gives a professional outlook to the audience. He tells us what will is going on in this magazine, and how to get involved with a variety of things. The language the editor uses is very laid back and casual. Creating a welcoming approach for the target audience. This has been put into a red box, to make the text stand out as it’s the brightest area of the page. Also on this contents page, there has been two recognisable logos placed. One being more recognisable than the other. The recycled logo tells us that the paper is eco-friendly, which adds to the reputation of the magazine.
Another thing that has caught my eye on this specific contents page is the fact it shows who did what to create this magazine. Giving everyone who helped create, credit their work. This gives out a very professional approach.

Analysis Rock Sound Magazine – Feature Article
The feature article in Rock Sound magazine is an interview with the band ‘Bring Me The Horizon’. On the first pages, there is a main image, covering one full side. This image is of Oli Sykes, the lead singer of Bring me the Horizon. This image shows youth culture and rebellion. This may interest the target audience, and may give us a feel who the target audience is. On top of this image is a pull quote. “I look back at the person I was and shake my head, but I don’t want to go on regretting stuff.” The pull quote is very personal and it would endear him to his audience. The pull quote could also be a caption for the photograph of Oli Sykes. There is a number of pull quotes throughout the feature article, there are three altogether, which help involve the target audience. They do this by pulling the audience into the article with the use of important and catchy quotes. The same theme of graphics has been brought through from the font cover, to this main feature article. With again, the feeling of futurism. This may come as a metaphor, as the quote ties in well with this, also the sub heading “Into the future” helps create this impact.
The colours used in feature article are red, white and black. Creating a dark, simple approach. This also ties in well with the front cover. This is because they have used the same colour theme to entice the audience towards the band.  The fonts are a mixture of san serif and serif fonts. The captions and headings have used san serif fonts. This font has been used to create a modern approach, for a modern band. The body text has been typed in serif fonts, as it is clear to read for the audience of this magazine.
There is a total of seven images in this article.  Each being images of the band and their current album cover. The first, larger image is of the lead vocalist. This may have been used to attract the audience as he may be the most recognisable from the band. There is a theme for the band. With the use of plain white tee shirts. This is so they all interlink with one another, and no one stands out. There is one kicker in the feature article which consists of a rhetorical question. This enables the reader to hunt for the answer in the article; it also attracts the reader and makes the reader excited and wanting to read more. The layout of the text contains gutters, which create a clearer read for the target audience.
In the whole of this feature article, there are only two sidebars which cover areas similar to those of the band. I.e. Ahead of the curve, which tells the reader about an earlier article with Oli Sykes. The other is ‘behind the music’ which is about the band’s latest album. These two sidebars also involve images of both the earlier magazine cover and the album cover. Just to show the audience what is being said.

Analysis Vibe magazine – Front cover
The main image is the first thing that stands out to the audience, on Vibes front cover. This is because it is an image of Mariah Carey, a well-known face in the music business. This magazine is to come across as ‘glamorous’ to the reader, with the use of sunny beaches and jewellery etc. The masthead is yellow to add to the ‘sunny beach’ theme, the main colour theme throughout the title page is again the yellow theme, with black to make some of the cover lines stand out. The main cover line has been made using a different font and colour to the rest. It has been done using a more ‘handwritten’ font and the use of the colour pink, to make the main cover line more personal on Mariah Carey’s behalf.
The fonts used are san serif fonts to give a more modern approach to the audience.
By looking at the front cover, you can immediately see who the target audience is. The target audience will probably be ABC1 black males. This is simply because the front cover consists of an RnB artist who is giving ‘sexual’ eye contact towards the viewer. Luring the target audience into buying this product. Another reason I came to the conclusion of high class black males was because, the content of the magazine consists of cars, alcoholic drinks, trainers and women etc. Therefore, the readers will have to be richer to afford these expensive items.
The physiographics of Vibe magazine would be broken down into two different groups. The younger audience will be aspirers. I.e. they will aspire to this particular lifestyle. The older audience will therefore be Succeeders, who have already obtained this lifestyle.

 Analysis Vibe magazine –Contents page
The contents page has repeated the same theme of ‘glamour’ from the front cover. The main image is again an image of Mariah Carey enduring a sexual look towards the audience. The main colours have changed, from bright yellows, to golden tones and whites, to fit into the more glamorous theme. There is a pull quote saying “I’m that chick” this could be seen as a caption for the image of Mariah and to intrigue the audience.
On the left of the image, there is a side bar which shows the audience what is good about Vibe magazine’s website. Meaning the target audience will possibly look at what the website has to offer.
The second page of the contents is a completely different look to the other. The font is blue, white and black and the image is a series of the same image. On this page is again a pull quote “Irv got into the business and just lost his mind” which entices the audience to read on.
The first page of the contents is what is featured in the magazine. These are articles that are often seen in the magazine. I.e. interviews and reviews etc.

Analysis Vibe Magazine – Double page spread
This feature article covers seven pages. Five being images. The images are mainly aimed towards a male audience, this is because they are all very sexual orientated. The body language is very seductive, along with the eye gaze and facial expression focusing directly towards the audience. The images are very large covering whole pages of this article.
There are two colours and two types of font. One type being very script and handwritten like, to add personality to the article. This font has been used for the subheadings and headings of the article. And the other font is san serif. This is for the body text to make the article clear to read. The colours consist of pink for the subheadings/headings, white for the kicker, which has been featured on the second page of the article to big Mariah Carey and her career up. The use of black has been used for the body text to help keep the article clear and tidy.
Drop caps have been used in the style of a diary. They have been used using times i.e. 5pm etc. The layout consists of negative space and gutters, to create simplicity and to help make the article clear and tidy for the audience to read.
